Memory

Because of trouble with subventions and of common interests, the issue entitled Memory was published with co-publishers, the Ekran magazine (Vol 21/ Volume XXXXXIII/ 7-8/ 9-10/ 1996, editor Stojan Pelko), and the now former Formart magazine (no. 11, editor Vesna Tržan). Even though the issue is numerated and dated with the year 1996, it came out in the spring of 1997. During this period, Maska has moved to Metelkova 6, where it still resides, along with most other non-governmental organizations from the field of art and culture.

The magazine brings articles and contributions by Janez Strehovec Under the Mark of ‘Total Recall’, by Bonnie Maranca (the editor of Performing Arts Journal, NY) on John Cage with the title Voice Ecology, Ivica Buljan was talking to Jozsef Nagy about memory, and the magazine also features extracts from Handke’s novel Sadness beyond Dreams, an interview with Marko Marin, a professor of theatre history at the Ljubljana AGRFT (Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television) was written by Barbara Pušič, Bojana Kunst in her article The Absence of Memory writes about the function of memory, story, meaning and identity in contemporary dance, which is followed by a translation of Deleuze’s text Flash-back, a text by Peggy Phelan The Ontology of Performance – Representation without Reproduction, a text by Irena Štaudohar entitled The Body between Time and Memory, Blaž Lukan wrote A Sketch for the Introduction to Anti-semitism (in Slovenian theatre), and finally, different artists speak about the intimate notions of memory.
