Politics of Presenting

This issue of Maska in its central section entitled Politics of Presenting sheds light on various aspects of representation—from the politics of aesthetics in Jacques Rancière’s essay of this title and the festivals of contemporary performing arts (Blaž Lukan discusses Slovenian festivals and Bojana Cvejić examines those dedicated to dance) to specific dance and theatre pieces and performances.

The latter, created by a younger generation of artists including Mojca Puncer, Ana Vujanović, Jure Novak and Katja Praznik, throw into relief the aesthetic as well as the broader social aspects of the politics of representation in individual authorial poetics. The section Patriotic and Other Acts brings a lengthy discussion, in which Marko Peljhan, Claire Pentecost, Brian Holms and Igor Zabel talk to Nataša Petrešin about the potential of cultural resistance. The third section entitled Dramatic Through Postdramatic features the analyses of Jablanovec’s performance Via Negativa: More (Via Negative: Še) and the Slovenian stagings of Cankar’s St. Florians.
