.. Rabih Mroué

In the framework of the Reflection on Contemporary Art: Seminar of Contemporary Performing Arts, MASKA and Cankarjev dom invite you to the lecture performance of Rabih Mroué:

THEATRE WITH DIRTY FEET
A Talk about Theatre Transformed into Art

9th May 2011 at 7.00 p.m.

Cankarjev dom, Kosovel Hall, Prešernova 10, 1000 Ljubljana
Entrance 5 €

My theatrical works no longer require an actual theatrical place… Not necessarily actors, stage, or big production and so on… I do not care where the performance will take place, or how many performances there will be.
What’s important is the talk taking place after the work; the talk that describes the art-work to be an accomplished event; the talk that is here and there at once; the talk that will produce ideas; the talk that becomes the performance itself, and without which it’s as if the art-work never took place…

About the artist

Rabih Mroué was born in Beirut in 1967. He is an actor, director, and playwright, and a TDR Contributing Editor. He is one of the founders and executive Board of Beirut Art Center association (BAC). In 1990 he began putting on his own plays, performances, and videos. Continuously searching for an alternative and contemporary relations among all the different elements and languages of the theatre art forms, Mroué questions the definitions of theatre and the relationship between space and form of the performance and, consequently, questions how the performer relates with the audience. His works deal with the issues that have been swept under the table in the current political climate of Lebanon. Grant Award for performing arts, 2010 from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts – New York. The Spalding Gray award, New York 2010.
His works include: Photo-Romance (2009), The Inhabitants of images (2008), How Nancy Wished That Everything Was an April Fool’s Joke (2007); Make Me Stop Smoking (2006); Looking for a Missing Employee (2005); Look into the Light… (2004); Who’s Afraid of Representation? (2003), Biokhraphia (2002); Three Posters (2000, Extension 19 (1997), The Lift (2003) and others...
