You are invited to participate in the seminar Reflections on Contemporary Art: Seminar of Contemporary Performing Arts, which is in the year 2006/2007 held under the title Difficulties with Contemporaneity: Selected Themes from Contemporary Performing Arts. The seminar, running already for six years, is devised as a set of closed lectures, workshops and a series of open lectures. Prior to each lecture the host lecturers will prepare materials (a survey in selected works from the sphere of contemporary performing arts) for the students, by way of which the seminar will also provide an insight into the current performing arts arena.

The lectures will be held on Mondays, from November 13 2006 to May 14 2007, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm in Cankarjev dom (mainly in Hall M3/4). The seminar includes closed sessions (48 hours or 12 sessions) by Also Milohnić (4 sessions), Emil Hrvatin (4 sessions), Bojana Kunst (2 sessions), Petra Pogorevc (1 session) and Rok Vevar (1 session), and a series of public lectures of top home and foreign experts. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to take part in three theoretical-practical workshops (70 hours), which will discuss different aspects of contemporary performing arts. <br/>

Public lectures will present different aspects of contemporary art practices. This year special stress will be put to the reflection about what delineates contemporary artistic performing practices and which are the fundamental theoretical and aesthetical problems. Furthermore, a number of important examples from contemporary performing arts will be presented. Namely, contemporaneity is a political category and not a category of time, therefore, contemporaneity in art needs to be thought through the consequences of equality and democratization of aesthetic expressive means, which influence the formulation of art’s audience, materiality of its practice and also the delimitation of art from art itself. Contemporary performing arts are an art practice of bringing together heterogeneous acts, genres and expressions. This practice is enacted precisely through diversity of audiences, with a different spatial organization, with traversing genre differences and a search for the answer to what art can be.
