ARTISTIC AND SOCIAL ASSEMBLAGE OF BODIES: CONTEMPORARY PERFORMING ARTS AND THE POWERLESSNESS OF THE POLITICAL

 

The Seminar is conceived as a live and dynamic crossroads of ideas, critical thought and reflections on the possible modes of art. Among the Slovene and international theoreticians and artists who are to give lectures and conduct workshops are:
Gazira Babeli (Second Life) came to life in 2006 as an artist, performer and filmmaker in Second Life. She is a member of Second Front, an international group of artists who explore formal, aesthetic, cultural and social forms of reality in relation to the virtual world. Her work has been presented at numerous festivals and international exhibitions.
Ivana Ivković (Croatia) is a dramaturge and member of the BadCo. collective. She is on the editorial board of Frakcija and cooperates with the Third Programme of the Croatian Radio, Centre for Drama Art and numerous publications. She is the general coordinator of Zagreb – Cultural Kapital of Europe 3000.
Stefan Kaegi (Cosmopolitan) is theatre director who deals with theatricality in everyday life. He is a member of the RIMINI PROTOKOL, a group of artists, which includes also Helgard Haug and Daniel Wetzel. Together, they create various projects, with which they tour the world.
Oliver Frljić (Croatia) is a theatre director, member of the editorial board of Frakcija, he cooperates with the TV show Kazalištarije and the Third Programme of the Croatian Radio. Together with Goran Sergej Pristaš, he coordinates the Highways of Knowledge educational programme at the Centre for Drama Art.
Bojana Cvejić (Serbia, Belgium) is one of the most prominent representatives of the younger generation of Serbian theoreticians and writers in the field of performing practices. Her bibliography lists numerous publications in international periodicals in this field. She is currently completing her PhD thesis on Massumi.
Stefan Jonsson (Sweden) is Associate professor of Ethnic studies at the University of Linköping, Sweden. He received his PhD in Literature from Duke University, USA, in 1997. He has authored numerous theoretical articles and written literary critiques for Dagens Nyheter, a major Swedish daily. His most successful work is A Brief History of the Masses: Three Revolutions (2008).
Gesa Ziemer (Germany) is a professor of philosophy, contemporary history and ethnology in Zurich and Hamburg, where she heads the Institute for Theory. She is Assistant Professor of Aesthetics and Cultural Theory at the Zurich University of Arts. Her theoretical articles are regularly published in theatre magazines, such as Theater der Zeit, Du, Herbst and Theorie zur Praxis. She also curates theoretical parts of festival programmes.
Peter Stamer (Austria) is a dramaturge, author and performer in the field of contemporary dance and performance art. In his rich and diverse career, he worked as a dance curator, theoretician and researcher of contemporary dance. In 2001, he curated the theoretical programme at Tanzquartier Wien. Together with Angela Glechner and Philipp Gehmacher, he published a book entitled Incubator. He is also head of the research project “Laboratorium is the answer. But what is the question, still?“.

If you are interested in learning about contemporary performing arts and discovering the meaning and mechanisms of contemporary art practices as tools of reading and understanding contemporary society and if you would like to delve into the connections between practical and theoretical work, you can enlarge your knowledge or critically reflect upon it with the help of top Slovenian and foreign experts. The Seminar is also an excellent opportunity to learn about the current goings on in contemporary performing arts, which, as live arts, are always in a race against the time of oblivion.

The Seminar is intended for humanities and art students, already established artists and cultural workers as well as all who are driven by curiosity and the wish to extend their knowledge.

The enrolment will take place from 20 August until 30 October 2009, each workday between 10 am and 1 pm.
The enrolment fee is EUR 200.00 for first-time students and EUR 160.00 for returning students. The enrolment fee must be paid in full, at the latest, by 30 October 2009.
